Turkmen sportsmen will take part in the 2013 Special Olympics World Winter Games to be started in Pyeongchang, South Korea on January 25. Our athletes will participate in such events for the fourth time. Moreover, our hockey players won gold medals in three previous Special Olympics World Winter Games in 1997 in Toronto (Canada), in 2001 in Alaska (the US) and in Nagano (Japan). Hopefully, Turkmen sportsmen will demonstrate their sports mastership and keep the high place at the 2013 Special Olympics World Winter Games.
The 21st International Freestyle Wrestling Tournament in memory of captain third rank of the Komsomolets atomic submarine A.M. Ispenkov will gather together young wrestlers in Vitebsk (Belarus) on January 24-26. Three Turkmen athletes from the Olymp Sports School of the State Committee for Sports will represent Turkmenistan at the tournament.
Muskat, the State of Oman will host two international tennis tournaments on January 23 – February 9. Eight our sportsmen including the first racket of Turkmenistan D. Ernepesov will take part in the tournament.
At present, the cultural capital of the Russian Federation - St. Petersburg hosts the CIS Football Cup. Our team was qualified into Group C together with Moldova, Lithuania and Ukraine. In the first match the Moldavian footballers defeated 2-1 our sportsmen, and the second match versus Lithuanians was a draw 0-0. The decisive match versus the national team of Ukraine will be played on January 22. The football tournament will last till January 28.
