Turkmenistan – Great Britain: cooperation in the field of sports

The Turkmen-British sport forum was held at the National Institute of Sports and Tourism of Turkmenistan. It has determined the prospects in further development of the Turkmen sport movement. Main topic was the matter on organization of V Asian Indoor Games and martial arts to be held in 2017 on the basis of Olympic Township, being constructed in our capital.

Representatives of the Ministries of Economy and Development, Finances, Communications, Trade and Foreign-economic activity, Construction, Health and Medical industry, Culture, Education, Central Bank of the country, Ashgabat city municipality, Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs and others took part in the work of the forum organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, State Committee for sports and National Olympic Committee.

The foreign delegation at the head of the British Prime minister’s trade envoy Charles Hendry included the representatives of the leading British companies such as “British expertise”, “ARUP”, “Invent Planning Group”, Loughborough College. “Pinsent Masons LLP”, “MP Legacy” and “Rapiscan Systems Limited”.

In the course of the Ashgabat Forum, the head of the British delegation familiarized the officials of our sport departments with the draft of Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of sports between Turkmenistan, Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Mr. Charles Hendry noted that taking into account the prospects of rapidly developing Turkmen market, the companies of the United Kingdom plan to expand the spectrum of cooperation with our country in economic sphere as well.

Concerning the upcoming V Asian Indoor Games and Martial arts, it is worth mentioning that several British companies already take an active part in construction of Olympic Township. It is planned to put its first stage into operation in spring of next year. Specialists from Great Britain offered the State Committee for sports and National Olympic Committee of our country to familiarize with program on training of high-level sportsmen specially worked out for Turkmenistan.

The issues of bilateral cooperation in various spheres, particularly interaction and partnership between Turkmenistan and Great Britain in the field of arrangement and holding of the large international sport competitions were discussed the day before within the framework of the meeting with delegation at the head of the British Prime minister’s trade envoy Charles Hendry at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

Tomorrow, the delegation members of the United Kingdom will hold a series of meetings at the Government as well as familiarize with the construction process of the Olympic Township, having no analogs in the region.
