Coming week will involve again the Turkmen sportsmen in tens of contests of various levels – championships of Turkmenistan as well as international tournaments… But firstly – some words about last week marked with brilliant performances of our athletes on the international sport arena.
First of all, it is worth mentioning the World Cup Tournament on sport sambo for prize of President of Republic of Kazakhstan N. Nazarbayev held in Uralsk. Over 200 sportsmen, including team of Turkmenistan, competed for victory in the competitions. The second-year student of the National Institute of Sport and Tourism Maya Hydyrova from Bairamali (Mary province) won the bronze medal in weight class up to 56 kilograms.
The World Special Winter Olympic Games with participation of more than four thousand athletes from 112 countries is going on in the South Korean city – Pyeongchang. In sports forum, Turkmenistan is represented by floor hockey team, which fights these days for gold medals. It will be recalled that in this kind of sports, in World Special Olympic Games, our hockey players became the winners three times - in 1997 in Toronto (Canada), in 2001 in Alaska (USA) and in 2005 in Nagano (Japan). We expect the same results this time as well. World Games will last until February 6.
And now - about coming events. At present, sport battles are going on in administrative center of Balkan province within the framework of Fencing Championship of Turkmenistan. The sportsmen from all regions of the country and Ashgabat took part in it. Young “musketeers” compete on the basis of school No 2. Tournament will complete on February 5.
Today, the first round of the club volleyball championship of Turkmenistan has completed in Turkmenabat (Lebap province) on the grounds of sport schools No 2 and 3. After first round, “Talyp sporty” of the National Institute of Sports and Tourism and team of the State Migration Service are in the lead correspondingly in the first and second men’s groups. Among women, the clubs “Lebap”, “Talyp sporty” and “Merv” were among the top three. The second round of the Volleyball Championship of Turkmenistan will be held from February 21 to 25 in administrative center of Mary province. The final composition of the best volleyball “quartets” will be determined in May.
Chess Championship of Turkmenistan among boys and girls up to 20 years old, which completed yesterday on the basis of the capital’s chess sport school, gladdened the supporters with extremely stubborn and unpredictable duels. Intrigue has been kept till the last round. The participants of the group stage reached it without evident favorite. So, in men’s group, three chess players at once pretended to the first place. All of them are the representatives of the sport dynasty of Atabayevs’ family – Maksat, Yusup and Saparmyrat. Finally, the prize places from first to third were arranged in due order of names. Among girls, the first place was won by H. Veliyeva. The owner of silver medal became G. Atabayeva and M. Yalkanova closed the three of prize-winners.
In these days, two International Tennis Tournaments (4th -5th categories) among juniors up to 18 years old are held in Muscat (Oman). Team of Turkmenistan included 8 sportsmen. Among them, the coaches pin particular hopes on first racket of Turkmenistan among men D. Ernepesov.

In Paris, one of the largest International Judo Tournaments – “Large Helmet” will be held from February 9 to 10. National team of Turkmenistan will appear in enlarged composition – over 10 sportsmen. Participant of the last Olympics in London, master of sports of international class G. Hayitbayeva is among them. It is worth mentioning that the results of these competitions have direct influence on international rating of sportsmen. Successful performance will provide a chance to take part in the regular Olympic Games.
State Committee for sports of Turkmenistan will organize several national tournaments with participation of the strongest sportsmen of the country. So, young masters of “leather gloves” will arrive in Turkmenabat from all provinces and Ashgabat. During five days, they will compete for several sets of awards within the framework of Boxing Championship of Turkmenistan.
Another track and field championship of the country will be held on February 8-9 in Mary. Here, on running tracks of modern sport complexes, the young participants must compete in several disciplines of “queen of sports”.
Aquatic Sports Complex invites the fans of table tennis. On February 8, Championship of Turkmenistan among men and women will start in one of spacious halls of the complex. The prize winners will be detected on February 12.
