The State Committee for Sports of Turkmenistan announced an international tender for design and construction of new sports facilities in Ashgabat and velayats. It is planned to construct a new building of the high sports school and specialized chess and checker school in the Turkmen capital. One of the most important facilities to be built in Ashgabat is the Olympic Training Centre that will include sports training basis and scientific and research laboratory. The other tenders are announced for construction of weight-lifting sports schools in Balkan, Dashoguz and Mary Velayats.
Creation of favourable conditions for Turkmen citizens, in particular children to practice sports has become the main goal for developing sports and health-improving movement in Turkmenistan.
Sixteen large sports facilities and stadiums designed for 24,500 places were built in the country in 2012. The major part of sports facilities were put into operation in Dashoguz and Lebap Velayats – five units in each region that is stipulated by development of virgin lands and establishment of new settlements in these areas. Four sports facilities were opened in Mary Velayat and two objects – in Ahal Velayat with the most developed sports infrastructure. Moreover, 25 sports schools designed for 9,000 young sportsmen were put into operation in the country. Of them, eight schools were opened in Lebap Velayat, seven schools in Dashoguz region, five sports schools in Mary Velayat, three schools in Ahal and two schools in Balkan.
