Ashgabat will host the international conference “Diplomacy of the Great Silk Road: From History to Future”. The forum to take place on March 14-16 is organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan jointly with the Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency (TIKA) under the Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey.

The President of Turkmenistan issued the relevant Resolution at the recent government meeting. It is stated in the preamble that the aim of the conference is to further international cooperation in science and education and promote the phenomenon of the Great Silk Road as a factor for bringing nations and cultures together as well as respect for the values of peoples of the world. 20 years ago on March 16, 1993, Turkmenistan and Turkey signed the intergovernmental agreement on technical cooperation in economy, culture and education. With the view to implement the Resolution the Memorandum of Understanding was signed and TIKA opened its office in Turkmenistan in July that year. By the way, Turkmenistan is the first country where TIKA has opened its representative office, and it is not by chance since our nations have common historical roots and affinities. The most significant project of multifaceted Turkmenistan-TIKA partnership was the restoration of the Sultan Sanjar Mausoleum (2002-2004) carried out under the patronage of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The international forum “Diplomacy of the Great Silk Road: From History to Future” will also mark the 5th anniversary of the Institute of International Relations of MFA of Turkmenistan.
