Turkmen alpinists made ascent of the highest peak of the country – Ayrybaba peak in Koitendag, having hoisted national banner on it. The ascent timed to the State Flag Day became a good tradition for national mountaineers.

Patriotic action was organized by “Agama” alpinist club with participation of the sportsmen of “Mert” alpinist club founded recently in Balkanabat and assistance of the employees of Koitendag Nature Reserve of the Ministry of Nature Protection of Turkmenistan.

On the threshold of significant date for the country, on the slopes of Koitendag Mountain on the mark of over two thousand meters above-sea level, it was organized a base camp. It is the place wherefrom the alpinists performed the training and sport ascents. On the rocks, they worked out the skills of work on snow slopes.

Two tens of alpinists took part in the expedition. It was performed the training and sport ascents there. The participants of expedition encountered the low temperatures, deep covers of snow and steep rocky areas. Having overcome all difficulties, the alpinists hoisted national flag on Ayrybaba peak at the height of 3139 meters.

In the course of the second – sport ascent, which was performed by the group of more qualified athletes, it was chosen one of most complicated routes to the peak. It was used mountaineering technique and organized the insurance. As the chairman of “Agama” alpinist club Valeri Kotvin underlined, the ascent of Ayrybaba peak is a good school for Turkmen mountain climbers that will contribute to the training in mountaineering skills and improvement of the mastery.

The peaks of Koitendag belong to the zone of highland. Local natural conditions in winter period are similar to those met by the sportsmen on the highest mountain systems of the planet. Exactly therefore, during winter ascents of Ayrybaba peak, the athletes accumulate experience essential to raise the flag of Turkmenistan on the higher mountains of the plant. So, the participants of the ascent of Ararat held in summer of the last year also formed and worked out necessary skills in the course of Koitendag expeditions as well.

Competitions of natural rocky ground in Daray-dere gorge will complete the expedition of alpinists. Such rocky grounds have been tested on the slopes of Kopetdag and Big Balkan. Involvement of Koitendag into geography of these sport objects is another step in development of alpinism and rock climbing in the country.
