The Turkmenistan Traditional Karate Cup tournament took place at the Galkynys sports complex in Ashgabat. Over 260 karatekas from Ashgabat and the regions of Turkmenistan participated in the contests.

The winners of the tournament organized by the State Committee for Sports and the National Karate Centre were defined in seven events, such as individual and team kumite (pairs), individual and synchronized kata (complex exercises), en-bu, fuku-go (kata+kumite) and ku-go (one karateka attacks and the adversary responses).

The karatekas from Ashgabat demonstrated the perfect technique in all the aforesaid events and ranked first in the team tournament. The team from Mary Velayat, the 2012 Turkmenistan Karate Cup winners ranked second. The Lepab team took the third place.

These contests are an important part of preparation for a number of international tournaments. These include the World Fudokan Shotokan Championship which will take place in Istanbul from April 1 to 8.

The Taekwondo Tournament (WTF) is taking place in Daugavpils, Latvia these days. Eight martial artists from Turkmenistan are participating in this sporting event. These contests are the first stage of the 2013 Baltic Olympic Cup that brings together practitioners of the Korean martial art in three age categories. The Taekwondo Tournament (WTF) will last until February 26.

Sports facilities throughout our country are hosting various sporting events these days: the tennis tournament is taking place in Ashgabat, the national football championship in Dashoguz, the national chess championship in Turkmenabat and the national volleyball championship in Mary. The national Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling championship has brought together practitioners of these styles of wrestling from all the regions of Turkmenistan at the Ashgabat sports centre this week. The national handball championship will start at the Kopetdag sports complex in Ashgabat on Wednesday. The teams from five regions of Turkmenistan will compete for the medals.

The national kickboxing championship and the national badminton championship will start on Friday at the Galkynys sports complex and the sports centre of school 24 in Ashgabat respectively. The competitions in football, athletics, table tennis, checkers, goresh and many other sports will be taking place in the administrative centres of the regions of our country in the coming week.
