The Lebap Velayat team won the National Water Polo Championships. The final of the tournament was held in the Water Sports Complex in Ashgabat. The sportsmen coached by the senior coach Zakir Sheripov ranked the first in all the rounds including the final in which they played with their main rivals from Mary Velayat.
The water polo players from Lebap and Mary set the pace from the beginning of the match. A minute before the end of the fourth period the Lebap sportsmen scored a decisive kick – 6-5.
Zakir Sheripov said this victory was the team’s revanche for the missed opportunity to take the first place in the National Championship this spring, when the team of Mary Velayat coached by Vitaliy Sladkov ranked the first and left the Lebap sportsmen behind.
The centre forward Rustam Achilov, the halfbacks Valentin Uvakin, Vladimir Zagreev and Ruslan Novikov and the fullback Erkin Novruzov demonstrated the brilliant techniques.
The young sportsmen coached by Begench Cherkezov at the Ashgabat sports school of the State Committee for Tourism and Sports took the third place. B. Cherkezov is the main coach of the national water polo team, and this Championship is the test for the candidatures to the national team.
