Transition to the 12-year general secondary education

A meeting at the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan focused on the tasks set by the Decree on the Improvement of Education System in Turkmenistan and the Resolution on the Issues relating to General Secondary Education authorizing to transfer to 12-year general secondary education signed by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

According to the Resolution, the secondary education starts at age six, primary schools provide education from class 1 to class 4, secondary education – from class 5 to class 10. Pupils will have an opportunity to choose education in core disciplines in 11 and 11 classes.

These changes as an important step towards modernization of the national system of education in compliance with the best world standards and given the national specification were discussed during the meeting at the Ministry of Education. The specialists of the Ministry as well as representatives of scientific circles and leading public organisations of our country attended the meeting.

The meeting participants discussed the urgent tasks set to the secondary schools, where the new 2013-2014 academic year will start with new terms of teaching.
