Judo Championship of Turkmenistan among men and women was held in the sports complex “Ashgabat”. Competitions organized by the State Committee for sports and National judo center gathered nearly 300 sportsmen – the representatives of teams from all provinces and capital.
Among final duels in women’s group, it is worth mentioning the fight in the weight class up to 57 kilograms. Here, in the fight for the champion’s title, Jennet Geldibayeva and Maya Hydyrova have met. Both athletes have vast experience to their credit in the contests of national and international levels not only on judo, but sambo as well.
For example, in 2010, Jennet became the silver medalist for judo in the first World Junior Olympic Games in Singapore. To date, the most celebrated sport attainment of Maya is bronze medal of the World Cup on sambo, which was held at the beginning of the current year in Kazakhstan. So, in addition to particular joy of numerous fans, their duel turned into spectacular and uncompromising fight, where brilliant victory was gained by nineteen-year-old master of sports of international class Jennet Geldibayeva.
In the men’s finals, duel in weight class up to 73 kg, where Arslan Nurmuhammedov and Kasym Populov have met, was of the greatest interest. The first wrestler has greater sport experience in contrast to his opponent. Arslan is the owner of bronze medal of the Open Cup of Europe – 2011 taken place in Istanbul (Turkey), participant of several world championships and many other large international tournaments. In addition to it, he trains under the guidance of his famous brother, master of sports of international class Guwanch Nurmuhammedov – the participant of the Olympic Games-2008 in Beijing.
In the near future, most of winners of this championship have to compete for medals of Sambo Championship of the Central Asia. As a good tradition, it will be held on the first decade of March on the basis of Ashgabat multifunctional sports complex “Galkynysh”. In June of the current year, the Turkmen national team will take part in the World Student Games in the capital of Tatarstan – Kazan.
