The closing ceremony of the international travel trade show 203 ITB Berlin that took place at Messe Berlin, the largest exhibition centre in Germany reviewed the outcomes of the five-day forum. The Turkmen tour companies showcased Turkmenistan's tourism potential among participants from 180 countries worldwide.

A forum organized by the Turkmen delegation in the framework of the travel trade show to discuss multilateral initiatives and practical issues of cooperation, establish direct partner relations and explore new areas for joint projects attracted numerous tourism professionals. Such a discussion turned out to be timely since the interest of European tourists in our country grows, old stereotypes are destroyed and travel agencies want to have adequate information about modern realities in our country. In this context the Turkmen tourism symposium served as a barometer that clearly showed a determination of European tourism industry to promote mutually beneficial cooperation with Turkmenistan.

Showing in a worthy manner the tremendous potential for tourism business, Turkmenistan demonstrated its readiness for multivector intensification of cooperation and targeted support for most promising joint projects designed for a broad international audience at ITB Berlin. Turkmenistan's participation in the international travel trade show served as a successful PR campaign of our country as one of the recognized historic centres of human civilization as well as a young independent state with the effective foreign and domestic polices, strong economy, rich cultural heritage and growing international prestige.

Tourism processionals constituted about 90 percent of the visitors to Turkmenistan exposition in the previous days, but the last day of ITB Berlin 2013 was marked by the keen interest of tourists and travellers. They wanted to learn about many things, including tour routes, travel and visa costs, national cuisine, souvenirs from Turkmenistan, etc.

The most popular part of Turkmenistan exposition was the tourist map of the country. The large-scale photo panel with the map served as some kind of interactive portal that opens the door for numerous visitors to the world of fascinating journeys to ancient monuments and historic sites, architectural masterpieces and other legendary places that attract greatly those who love history and search for rarities.

The Turkmen travel companies were represented not only in Turkmenistan exposition. Some of them were a part of the joint expositions with other countries in the framework of the general concept of Turkmenistan's participation in ITB Berlin 2013 including such a key objective as promoting the legacy of the Great Silk Road.

It was a consistent integrated approach that determined the success of the five-day trade show in general and the joint exposition of Central Asian countries in particular. New plans of cooperation were elaborated to foster a dialogue initiated during the forum. For example, the delegation of Kazakhstan invited specialists from Turkmenistan to take part in an international conference on the future of the Great Silk Road aiming to enhance and promote the tourism potential of Central Asian countries in the international tourism market.

The travel trade show in Berlin provided a platform for numerous business contacts between Turkmen tour operates and their traditional as well as potential partners. It should be noted that most of these professional meetings were not spontaneous but pre-planned and well thought out which ensured the effectiveness and fruitfulness of intense work.

About 200 (!) international travel exhibitions will take place in Europe in 2013. Turkmenistan is currently preparing to take part in the World Expo, which will be held in London in the autumn this year. In Berlin, Turkmenistan received an invitation to the Tourism Exchange, which would take place in Madrid in early 2014.

It should be noted that Turkmenistan's participation in ITB Berlin 2013 not only has brought practical results and preliminary agreements during numerous working meetings and talks, but also serves as an important event promoting the image of modern day Turkmenistan. Its success is built of many components, including the critical ones such as destruction of old stereotypes about our country, establishment of its new image, strengthening of its position in the European tourism market and increase in its rankings among customers in EU countries.

In their turn, the members of the Turkmen delegation invited leading foreign businessmen and managers of major tourism associations and national agencies to participate in the I International Tourism Congress which would be held in one of the most beautiful regions of Turkmenistan, in the Avaza national tourism zone in September this year. The large-scale forum also will position Turkmenistan as an arena for prestigious and important events in the tourism sector, a new centre of international tourism, business and investment activities and a vast field for cooperation and testing of fresh, original ideas and introduction of advanced technology and joint innovative practices.
