A meeting of the Tourism Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States took place with the participation of experts of the World Tourism Organization and delegates from 11 countries worldwide in Moscow on March 15. Turkmenistan was represented at the forum that focused on the prospects of tourism development in the CIS.
The reports and presentations of top managers of national tourism departments, agencies and companies and tourism professionals focused on the conditions to be created to promote international cooperation in tourism as a factor in enhancing friendly relations, meeting the spiritual needs of citizens and providing access to the cultural and historical values.
It was noted that priority areas of tourism development in Turkmenistan today included the promotion of the Avaza national tourism zone in the world travel and recreation market and the use of ample opportunities in equestrian tourism.
The meeting agenda focused on the approaches to expanding and strengthening international contacts in tourism between CIS states and the international community under the Agreement on the Tourism Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States signed during the Summit of Heads of State of the CIS which took place in Ashgabat in May 2012 when Turkmenistan was presiding over the Commonwealth.
Meeting participants discussed the draft Strategy for the Development of the Integration Processes in Tourism for the period of 2020 and the plan of activities to mark the Year of Tourism in the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2014.
