Today, Turkmenistan became the center of international celebration of Novruz. Major solemnities in honor of this holiday have expanded in foothill valley of Akhal.
Upon completion of the plenary session of the International Conference “Novruz is the holiday of peace and humanism”, the President of Turkmenistan and invited guests – the UN Deputy Secretary General, the President of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the President of Islamic Republic of Iran, the President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the President of Republic of Tajikistan, the President of Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation, heads of delegations of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey made their way to this place.
Amazing township from the oriental fairytale stretched its possessions here on “Yayla” ground. Spacious meadow became a large stage for joyful festivity and its decorations – the hospitable Turkmen settlement recreated with all inalienable attributes of traditional lifestyle open for friends and neighbors.
The guests are welcomed with colorful eastern bazaar, where stormy life is in full swing. There is the abundance of products of folk handicrafts. Here, it is possible to see the improvised workshops of craftsmen. Somebody makes ploughs and somebody – musical instruments; shopkeepers do a brisk trade in papakha and embroidered skullcaps, homemade articles of everyday life, bright silks, jugs and dishes adorned with glaze. Not far from, it is possible to find the works of unsurpassed carpet and jewelry art of the Turkmen, national embroidery. Ancient melodies performed by bakhshy, who are surrounded with emotional listeners, became wonderful background for improvised action. At some distance, the fights of wrestlers and cheerful national games flare up. In old times, there were special place for them in crowded square.
The sensation of fascinating travel to ancient times is strengthened by models of such well-known historical monuments of Turkmenistan, which were freely located on a festive platform, as Koneurgench, Merv, Dehistan, Anew and others.
Trickles of smoke rise from coppers, where tasteful dishes are prepared. Their stirring aroma spreads far around. It is laid the patterned table-cloths. Experienced cooks, experts on ancient recipes demonstrate the technique of preparation of dishes of national cuisine, which are offered for guests as well.
Ringing voices are heard from high swings twined with flower garlands and surrounded with the youth. Skillful riders on graceful Akhalteke horses prance as well. It is impossible to imagine solemnities and weddings without these beautiful creatures. The wedding caravan has particularly picturesque look. They are accompanied by the riders on swift-footed racers.
In the white yurts built in a semicircle their traditions of Novruz celebration were presented by the representatives of delegations from Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tatarstan, Tajikistan and Turkey.
Here, it is also prepared various dishes of national cuisine of these countries, demonstrated the specific rites connected with Novruz, national cloths, works of decorative and applied art. It is heard the sounds of karna, surna and flute, which invite everybody for holiday.
According to the teaching of Avesta, people have to celebrate in every spring the renovation of life in the Earth, which arose “in six forms” – sky, water, land, plants, animals and human being. Therefore, there is a common custom to meet Novruz in the open air to enjoy the nature, sense the harmony with it. It was considered that in this case, happiness and welfare will accompany during whole coming year. Today, “Yayla” on Akhal valley granted all participants of the holiday such opportunity.
The pavilions with expositions prepared by museums of the country invited to make fascinating excursus to the history of the Turkmen farming and national culture. These expositions include the samples of ancient work tools, old household utensils, articles of everyday life and other relics of the past.
This topic got a logical development in expositions, representing modern agro-industrial complex, textile industry and other spheres.
The Turkmen falconers and their pets - hunting birds drew most lively attention. Like nice young of camel and small lambs, they also became the heroes of this wonderful theatrical and ethnographic panorama. Flocks of sheep, pasturing not far away on lush spring meadows and protected by mighty alabay dogs, supplement the atmosphere of traditional Turkmen settlement of farmers and peasants.
Artistic vernisage expanded in “Yayla” and included the works of outstanding masters of painting as well as productions of young successors of creative traditions of the Turkmen people was devoted to the beauty of spring, Turkmen nature, its gifts and people, who live in harmony with it.
The President of Turkmenistan together with the heads of states and heads of the foreign delegations visited the joint concert of masters of art of the participating states of the international solemnities.
Ancient Turkmen dance “kushtdepdi” performed by dance and folk groups jointly with foreign participants became the apotheosis of the festive concert. This dance became an embodiment of desire of nations for friendship and brotherhood, symbol of ideals of neighbourliness.
The concert has completed with performance of the song “Novruz has come to our beautiful land” by masters of art of all participating states of festive solemnities. It has reflected optimistic philosophy of the holiday and striving for unity and cohesion all over the world.
Saying goodbye to the participants of solemnity, the head of state and high guests left this place.
