In the opening game of Group E held in Manila, the Philippines within the framework of the 2014 Challenge Cup Qualifiers, Turkmenistan defeated 7-0 Cambodia.
The twenty teams competing for the second important continental trophy were drawn into five groups of four teams. The five group winners plus the two best second-placed teams will qualify for the finals in Maldives next year. The winners automatically qualify for the 2015 AFC Asian Cup in Australia.
According to the draw Turkmenistan, Cambodia, Brunei and the Philippines were qualified in Group E.
Turkmenistan played versus Cambodia twice in 2007 within the framework of the 2010 World Cup Qualifiers. In both matches our compatriots defeated their rivals – 1-0 in Pnompenh and 4-1 in Ashgabat.
