The International Conference “Ecology of the Aral Sea: Sustainable Development and International Cooperation” took place in the administrative centre of Dashoguz Velayat.
large-scale forum held under the patronage of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Nature Protection. It brought together the delegations of the Central Asian states and representatives of the major international organizations, including the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, UNDP, UNEP, UNECE, EU, FAO and the international programmes and projects implemented under their auspices.
Experts and specialists from Turkmenistan, Germany, UK, Canada, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Ukraine and other countries and media representatives attended the forum.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea Sagit Ibatullin emphasized the importance of the forum. The representatives of the delegations of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, as well as UNDP, UNEP, the European Union, the UN Economic Commission for Europe presented the overviews of the implementation of the nature conservation strategies and environmental programmes and projects.
Forum participants took a part in planting a forest belt in Dashoguz Velayat.
