The Week of Health and Happiness
The Week of Health and Happiness dedicated to the World Health Day widely celebrated on April 7 has started in Turkmenistan. This sports festival is held in our country for the second time. These days various competitions in all sports complexes and schools will gather sportsmen as well as specialists of all ministries and departments, pupils, students and foreign guests.
The competitions in the Goresh national wrestling will open the sports week. The tournament to be held in the Yzgant settlement in Geoktepe Etrap will bring together the best representatives of the belt wrestling from Ahal Velayat and Ashgabat.
The table tennis competitions and single combat events will take place at the Water Sports Complex and Ashgabat Sports and Health-Improving Complex. Balkanabat and Mary will host volleyball tournaments on the first day of the sports week.
The weightlifting and tennis contests will be organized at the Ashgabat multifunctional sports complex on April 2. Judokas, weightlifters and rowers will join to the Week of Sport in the administrative centres of Lebap, Dashoguz Velayats and in Turkmenbashi.
Ahal judokas will demonstrate their mastership in a spacious gym of a sport school in Yzgant settlement on April 3. Karatekas from Ashgabat will compete at the Galkynysh Sports Complex.
The exhibition performances in water sports will be arranged at the Ashgabat Water Sports Complex.
On April 3, the Mary Velayat Sports Schools will be the venue for free-style and Greco-Roman wrestling events.
On April 4, the main sports arena of the country – Ashgabat Sports Complex will gather numerous fans to award the winners of the IV National Sports Contest in various sports held under the motto “Turkmenistan is the country of high spirit and health”.
It should be noted that this sports forum was initiated by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, an ardent supporter and advocate of a healthy lifestyle. Labour groups, students of higher, vocational and secondary educational institutions and masters of sports compete in three stages of the National Sports Contest: at the municipal, velayat and national levels.
Within the health-improving action, the sports events and industrial gymnastics will be held at the enterprises, institutions and organisations of the country on April 4. On April 5, Masters of Sports Gymnastics will compete for the Ashgabat Cup at the Ashgabat Sports and Health-Improving Complex.
The Hockey Tournament among Ashgabat teams will start at the Winter Sports Complex on April 5. The winner of the tournament will be announced next day.
The National Basketball Championship will start at the sports school in Yzgant settlement on April 6. The Wushu competitions will take place at the Ashgabat Sports and Health-Improving Complex.
The final chord of the sports and health-improving week will be the World Health Day widely celebrated on April 7 to mark an anniversary of the World Health Organisation established in 1948. That day the venue of the sports events will be the Path of Health and Ashgabat Sports Complex, where track and field events, exhibition performances and concert will be held.
