The Week of Health and Happiness started in Turkmenistan

The Week of Health and Happiness dedicated to the World Health Day widely celebrated on April 7 has taken place in Turkmenistan.

The competitions held under the motto “Labour. Health. Sport!” organized by the National Trade Unions Centre of Turkmenistan in the Galkynysh Sports and Health-Improving Centre opened the programme of the Week of Health and Happiness.

The ceremony of awarding the winners of the table tennis, mini football and volleyball contests among men and women under the motto “Turkmenistan is the country of high spirit and health” took place within the framework of the holiday.


The Central Council of the Union of Women of Turkmenistan will pick up the baton of the Sports week and will organize a traditional action “Healthy family” at the Galkynysh Sports and Health-improving Centre.

Moreover, within the framework of the Week of Health and Happiness, the final match of the Challenge Cup of the Football Federation of Turkmenistan took place at the Ashgabat multifunctional Stadium.

Ahal FC defeated 5-4 Ashgabat FC in the final and won the Cup.

One of the bright sports events of the day was the hockey tournament within the framework of the open championship of the sports school under the State Committee for Sports of Turkmenistan.


Yash Olymp defeated 3-2 the second team of the sports school and will play versus Oguzhan HC in the final on April 2. The two teams of the school will compete for the third place.

Over 100 sportsmen participated in the Table Tennis Championship among boys and girls.

The Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan organized Men’s Chess and Checkers Tournament at the Ashgabat Sports School for Chess under the Sports Committee of Ashgabat that brought together over 30 businessmen from the Turkmen capital.

The national lightning tournament among juniors from all regions and Ashgabat will be held there on April 6 within the framework of the Week of Health and Happiness.


A highway nearby the Ashgabat multifunctional sports complex hosted an Ashgabat Cycle Racing Open Championship. Over 30 best students of sports school participated in the tournament.

On April 4-5, bicyclists will compete at the tracks of the Ashgabat Sports Complex. On April 7, the Week of Health and Happiness will finish with a bicycle racing along the Path of Health.

The followers of the Wushu, karate and taekwondo as well as traditional karate demonstrated the mastership of hand-to-hand fighting.


Scientific and practical conferences dedicated to popularization of the healthy life style and progressive policy implemented by the President of Turkmenistan in this sphere will be held within the framework of the Week of Health and Happiness in various ministries, departments and public organisations.

AHAL VELAYAT. A new sports school built at the request of the Ahal Velayat capital construction board for 350 young sportsmen was opened in Ak Bugday Etrap, Anau to mark the Week of Health and Happiness.


A friendly match between amateur football teams representing Ahal Velayat took place at the football playing grounds of the new school within the framework of the Week of Health and Happiness.

BALKAN VELAYAT. The goresh national wrestling tournament and handball competitions with participation of students of different educational institutions and sports schools of the administrative centre of Balkan Velayat started in Balkanabat.


The competitions in sambo, Greco-Roman Wrestling, judo, box, fencing, football and basketball will be held in the sports complexes of the city within the framework of the large-scale sports action.

DASHOGUZ VELAYAT. Thousands sportsmen and supporters of the healthy life style in Dashoguz Velayat took part in various events on the first day of the Week of Health and Happiness.


3,000-meter race became a symbolic start of the national action. The volleyball competitions and other sports events took place in all etraps of the northern region of the country.

LEBAP VELAYAT. The Week of Health and Happiness started in the valley of the Amu Darya River in a festive mood. The Lebap Velayat Khyakimlik jointly with the Lebap Velayat Committee for Sports, Lebap Velayat Department of Health Care and Culture developed a large-scale programme of various sports events with the aim to hold the Week of Health and Happiness more efficiently.

Local youth participated in game tournaments demonstrating their mastership in muscle-strengthening exercises, athletics and other sports events. Teams representing the institutions of the health care, educational and cultural spheres competed in chess, checkers and tug-of-war events.


Moreover, competitions in volleyball, basketball, national sports events, chess and checkers started in all enterprises, organisations and institutions of the eastern regions of the country.

MARY VELAYAT. The Week of Health and Happiness started on the Path of Health stretching along the banks of the Murgab River in Mary. By tradition, the sports festival opened with a big concert performed by artistic groups of the Mary Velayat Department of Culture.

Students of sports schools, secondary schools as well as the State Energy Institute demonstrated exhibition performances. The final chord of the festivities was the procession along the Path of Health and bicycle racing that brought together over 100 sportsmen.


Then the sports festival continued on the arena of a modern stadium designed for 10,000 seats in the northern part of the Velayat centre.

Sports tournaments were also organized in modern sports schools in Sakarchaga and Murgab Etraps. The first round of the mini-football tournament among schoolchildren in the velayat was held a sports school opened last year in the Gunesh district in Mary.

Various contests with participation of sportsmen and teams representing various enterprises, organisations and institutions as well as students will be held in all sports complexes, sports schools and sports facilities in the region within the framework of the Week of Health and Happiness.
