Two sporting events took place in the Week of Health and Happiness at the Ashgabat sports complex yesterday. The competitions in the Chinese martial arts Wushu were held in the morning. Sportsmen from Ashgabat and Ahal Velayat competed in three age groups.

The winner in the under-12 group is M. Orazgeldyev. Sportsmen under 18 years old competed in four weight categories. G. Ataev, M. Kurbanov, O. Geldyev and H. Nurniyazov ranked first in their weight categories. Ch. Tagangylyjov took the first place in the senior age group. The winners are coached by Chairman of the Wushu Federation of Turkmenistan Ya. Annamyradov and the senior coach of the Ahal Velayat team Sh. Berdyev.

These competitions are a stage of preparation for the Wushu men's and women's tournaments which will take place in May this year in the gym of the Ashgabat sports complex. The winners will form the national team who will participate in the international arena: the Islamic Solidarity Games, the programme of which includes the Chinese martial art, will be held in Indonesia on June 7-14.

The aikido and jitsu competitions were held in the sports arena of the Ashgabat sports complex after the Wushu tournaments. Practitioners of the Japanese martial art, which combines numerous styles like Wushu, presented the exhibition performances. The master of the ancient samurai style of Iaido, 6th dan Shihan Chris Mooney from the United Kingdom demonstrated his skills to the Turkmen audience.

The guest from Albion arrived in Ashgabat to hold a seven-day seminar including theoretical and practical sessions for Turkmen coaches and sportsmen.

Masters of the martial arts, including ju jitsu, kendo and aikido, presented the exhibition performances for numerous spectators.

A cycle race began at the foothills of Mount Gindivar where the Path of Health starts. Representatives of ministries and departments and students of higher educational institutions (about 200 participants) gathered together there to determine the fastest bicyclists in the 10-km race.

The competitions took place on Archabil Avenue and finished in front of the State Museum building. S. Serdarov, a representative of the Ashgabat Khyakimlik, was the fastest bicyclist in the group of workers and N. Igdyrov, a student of the National Institute of Sports and Tourism, ranked first among students.

The ice hockey tournament that took place at the Olympic Ice Palace with the participation of six teams aroused great of sports fans. HC Oguzhan of the Turkmengaz State Concern, HC Galkan of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, HC Burgut of the State Committee for Sports, HC Nesil of the Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the debutants of the national tournament: HC Merdan of the State Border Guard Service and HC Watanci of the Military Institute of the Ministry of Defence participated in the competitions.

silver medallists and the participants of the first international ice hockey tournament for the Turkmenistan President’s Cup HC Oguzhan and HC Galkan played in the final. HC Galkan won a decisive victory.
