Tennis Championship of Turkmenistan was held on the tennis courts of the capital’s “Ashgabat” sports complex. Over 200 sportsmen from Dashoguz, Lebap, Mary provinces and Ashgabat took part in the contests.
As it was supposed, in age group “14 years old and elder” among boys, the gold medal was won by the current champion of Turkmenistan, “the first racket of the country” Alexander Ernepesov from Ashgabat. In the contests among girls, Anastasia Prenko - repeated world champion of the country and winner of many international tournaments predictably won a victory.
National championship identified not only the best tennis players of the country, but also the team, which soon, has to take part in the international competitions. In these days, men’s national team left for the French city Nice for training session. Under guidance of famous international coaches, our tennis players prepare for one of most prestigious contests in the world - Davis Cup tournament to be held from April 21 to 30 in Yangon (Myanmar).
Our national team included the student of the International Turkmen-Turkish University Alexander Ernepesov under number one, George Pochai (two), Eziz Dovletov (three) and student of the National Institute of Sports and Tourism of Turkmenistan Jamshid Ilmuradov (four). Reserve team included the residents of Ashgabat Altymurad Gurbanov and Bahtiyar Atabayev. The residents of Turkmenistan will compete for medals in group “Asia-Oceania”.
The Turkmen national team also included Anastasia Prenko, who prepare for series of large tournaments under the aegis of the International Women’s Tennis Association (WTA).
