Revival of the Great Silk Road is of particular significance for the integration processes taken place in our region and Eurasian area as well as for development of international cooperation in all spheres including politics, diplomacy, trade and economy. Today, the first-class autobahns and modern railways have replaced the caravan paths that run there in old times crossing the ocean of sands spreading out between the oases of flourishing cities. The railway was chosen as a main road along the route that familiarizes our guests with the historical and cultural sights of our country and local landscape as well. Such ‘an immersion’ in the landscape environment provides tourists with a unique opportunity to see the past and the present of the Great Silk Road. Today, it is one of the most successful tourist projects in the Central Asian region. Having been launched in 2010, this route has become very popular among tourists from all over the world.
These days, a group of tourists travelling along this route that demonstrates the monuments included into the UNESCO World Heritage List has arrived in Turkmenistan. A special tourist train brought the foreign guests to the railway station in Mary. On the land of the Murgab Valley the tourists from France, Italy, Norway and Germany had a chance to learn more about one of the most mysterious phenomena of the world civilization – the country of Margiana that has started revealing its secrets due to the hard and long-term work of archeologists and historians.
The visit to the Ancient Merv started with its ‘visit card’ – a legendary monument of the Turkmen architecture – the Mausoleum of Soltan Sandjar, whose name relates to a whole epoch in the glorious history of the Turkmen people. The Mausoleum of Soltan Sandjar is a place of pilgrimage that arouses keen interest among foreign tourists, historians and architects from all over the world. The guests also visited the outdoor museum showcasing impressive monuments, including citadels Erk-gala and Gyaur-gala, Big and Small Gyz-gala amazing with their unique shapes, etc. Then the train got the tourists back to Ashgabat - from the grey old times to the present meeting them with the lights of the evening capital, luxury hotels and perfect service.
Next morning, our foreign guests visited the National Museum of Turkmenistan – a large depository of priceless rarities and relics. The findings excavated on the territory of the legendary Nisa, Ancient Merv and other historical and cultural monuments of the country occupy a special place in the museum. Then the tourist programme continued with a visit to another historical corner of the Turkmen land – the Old Nisa settlement near Ashgabat.
The excursion to the ancient history changed to the familiarity with the present day of Turkmenistan. The fascinating tour to the Turkmen capital included various sights such as the Ylham Valley, 10 Years of Independence of Turkmenistan Park, etc. within the framework of the excursion the guests visited the Ertogrul Gazy Mosque in Ashgabat and the Mosque of Spirituality of Turkmenbashi in Kypchak.

It is said that bazars convey the unique colour of any eastern country and particular features of the local people’s life. The group of more than 80 European tourists was accompanied by our guides speaking in the English, German and French languages.
In the evening the guests enjoyed the variety of the Turkmen national cuisine to the accompaniment of a folklore show with music, songs, dances and colorful national customs.
The participants of the trip expressed the wish to widen the route of the Great Silk Road Project. Mentioning the objects they want to see, the guests have once again demonstrated their knowledge about the history of Turkmenistan.
