National team of Turkmenistan successfully performed at the 4th Shotokan Karate World Championship held in Istanbul (Turkey). In the end, our compatriots won 6 bronze medals at the large sport forum, which gathered nearly 3600 sportsmen from 56 countries. They won one of them in individual, two- in team single combats (kumite) as well as three – in synchronized exhibition performances (kata).
In our team, Z. Jumabayeva from Mary has distinguished in individual kumite. She got up the third step of podium in weight class up to 67 kilograms. Another bronze medal was earned by Z. Jumabayeva in team duels, where she performed in pair with the representative of Balkan province M. Mammetorazova. In synchronized kata, the third place was won by the team of our boys in composition of D. Hojayev, N. Yangibayev and A. Atahanov.
National team was prepared for the World Championship by the Honored Coach of Turkmenistan H. Hojayev and his assistant O. Elliyev. Incidentally, having the title “referee of international class”, O. Elliyev also served the single combats as the referee at the World Championship in Istanbul.
At present, young Turkmen masters of traditional karate prepare for the country’s Championship on this kind of martial arts among children and juniors to be held from May 9 to 13. According to the results of the Championship, it will be formed the national team for participation in the Traditional Karate Championship of Eurasia. These competitions will be held about 20th of May in Italy.
Men’s national team of Turkmenistan has to prepare for the large international tournament, which will be held in next month in Indonesia. In July, in San Diego (USA), the International Traditional Karate Federation will organize annual coaches’ seminar. The representatives of the National Traditional Karate Center of Turkmenistan will also take part in it.
