The celebrations in honour of Turkmen Horse Day continued in the capital of Turkmenistan. These included the 60-km horse marathon and the show jumping competitions.
The horse marathon held in Ashgabat to mark Turkmen Horse Day brought together numerous admirers of the ‘heavenly argamak’, including foreign guests and journalists from 22 countries who had expressed the willingness to arrive in Turkmenistan to cover the remarkable event.
Over twenty horses at the age of 5-14 participated in two sections of the marathon (30 kilometres each) and run along Kopetdag Avenue through rough terrain. They were the horses from the President of Turkmenistan Ahalteke horse breeding complex, the National Equestrian Sports Centre, the velayat subdivisions of the Turkmen Atlary State Association, the stables of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Defence and the private stud farms.
In the afternoon, the horses participated in the show jumping competitions at the international equestrian sports centre. This competitive sport celebrated its 100th anniversary in the Olympic movement last year.
Show jumping has been promoted in our country since the international equestrian sports complexes opened in October 2011. The show jumping competitions held in Ashgabat on the eve of Turkmen Horse Day vividly illustrated it. Nine horses from the President of Turkmenistan Ahalteke horse breeding complex and the National Equestrian Sports Centre participated in the contest.
According to the rules, the rider should ride his horse over 10 fences and other obstacles the maximum height of which was 1 metre in the first round and 1.3 metres in the second round. The information about each participant and his horse, the time and the penalty points for errors was displayed on the big monitor.
The ceremony of awarding the winners of the horse marathon and the show jumping contest will take place on April 28.
