The organizing committee of the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, which will take place in Ashgabat in 2017 at the decision of the Olympic Council of Asia, held its first meeting in the Turkmen capital.
The meeting participants discussed the draft general plan and agreed on the formation of the executive directorate and selection of its staff, sporting events to be included in the 2017 Asian Games programme of the Executive Board of the Olympic Council of Asia and developed the programme to train our sportsmen and national teams in different sports and involve foreign specialists and coaches, etc.
The development plan also provides for the organization of the international competitions in 2015-2016, including the world and Asian championships as pilot sporting events, the creation of the 2017 Asian Games Fund and the development of the marketing plan to attract investment. It is planned to hold media forums with foreign experts and design an official website of the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games to ensure worldwide media coverage of sporting events of the V Asian Games.
The meeting participants also discussed such important issues as the design and registration of the symbols of the V Asian Games – the emblem, mascot and motto and production of souvenirs, the opening and closing ceremonies of the V Asian Games and the selection and training of volunteers, doctors and doping control specialists.
A focus of discussion was the quality of construction of the Olympic Village, catering facilities, security, alarm, security, communications, electricity and water supply systems, etc. with the view of fulfilling the instructions the Turkmen leader had given during his working trip to the Olympic Village to see the progress of construction of sports facilities.
The Asian Games that our country will be hosting in 2017 promises to be most numerous. On April 27, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Olympic Council of Asia Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, who had arrived in our country to participate in the Turkmen Horse Day celebrations, discussed some issues relating to the forthcoming major sporting event and found it appropriate to include Australia and Oceania in the list of its participants.
The agenda also focused on the preparation of Turkmen athletes for the IV Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, which would be taking place in Incheon (South Korea) from June 29 to July 6, and the participation of the Turkmen delegation in the ceremony when the flag of the Olympic Council of Asia would be handed over to Turkmenistan, the host country of the Asian Games in 2017.
