The International Turkmen-Turkish University won the Turkmenistan Football Cup. The sportsmen coached by Honoured Coach of Turkmenistan Yazkuli Hojageldiev defeated 4-2 Ashgabat FC, the bronze-medal winner of the national championship in the final.
Over its 20-year history this prestigious national tournament has been held outside the Turkmen capital for the fifth time and in Abadan for the first time with the aim of promoting further football in the country.
The fate of the honorary trophy was decided in a penalty shootout for the fourth time. The prime and extra time failed to determine a winner and ended in a draw 0:0. In the 23rd minute a halfback of Ashgabat FC D. Durdyev kicked the post. In the 36th minute a ITTU forward A. Amanov ran away from the rivals’ defenders but failed to get the better of the goalkeeper B. Berdiyev.
H. Komekov and H. Amanmamedov (ITTU) and E. Tagaev and D. Urazov scored the goals in a penalty shootout. The fourth kick was fatal for Ashgabat FC. An ITTU halfback G. Hangeldyev scored a goal, and the best forward of Ashgabat FC B. Shamuradov failed to get the better of the goalkeeper Robert Alikhanov, who became the hero of the match.
