A meeting to mark 150 years of humanitarian action of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) was held in the conference hall of the Oguzkent Hotel in the Turkmen capital. Head of the ICRC Regional Delegation for Central Asia Pierre-Emmanuel Ducruet arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the event.
The cabinet ministers, the heads and members of public organisations and higher educational institutions of Turkmenistan, the heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Turkmenistan and international organisations, including OSCE, UNICEF, USAID, Europa House in Ashgabat, were participants and guests of the forum organized jointly by the ICRC and the National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan (NRCST).
The National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan promotes the implementation of the national development programmes and projects aimed at guaranteeing social protection to citizens, protecting their life and health and strengthening the principles of humanism – friendliness, charity and mutual aid in the best traditions of the Turkmen people in the society. The NRCST is a member of the Intergovernmental Commission on the
Implementation of International Humanitarian Law in Turkmenistan since 2012.
The action to mark the foundation of the ICRC and the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement was held to mark World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day celebrated each year on May 8.
