A working meeting at the Turkmen National Institute for Democracy and Human Rights under the President of Turkmenistan focused on cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union in the sphere of human rights.
A representative delegation of the EU, including Ms. Elizabeth Tison, Head of the Human Rights Policy Guidelines Division at the European External Action Service, Ms. Audrone Perkauskiene, Human Rights officer of the European External Action Service, Ms. Shafiqa Mumin, Political Advisor of the European Union Special Representative for Central Asia arrived in the Turkmen capital to participate in the meeting. Head of the EU Liaison Office to Turkmenistan Rosaria Puglisi attended the meeting. The heads of the Mejlis, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the Turkmen National Institute for Democracy and Human Rights under the President of Turkmenistan represented Turkmenistan at the meeting.
The meeting participants noted the state policy of the Turkmen state prioritized protection of human rights and interests. Following its commitments in accordance with the ratified documents of authoritative international organisations, Turkmenistan successively implements the generally recognized international legal norms and regulations guaranteeing human rights and interests.
The meeting participants highly appreciated the existing situation and prospects of cooperation between Turkmen specialists and foreign experts in the legal sphere, including EU specialists. A number of joint projects and programmes have been implemented and numerous meetings and conferences have been organized in our country with active participation of international experts. It was noted that an efficient partnership had been established between Turkmenistan and the EU within the last years. In conclusion, the meeting participants expressed the willingness of the both sides for widening efficient cooperation.
