The Turkmen sportsmen won five medals – 2 gold and 3 bronze – in the International Wushu Tournament in the capital of Armenia – Yerevan.
Over 200 athletes from 12 countries, including five residents of Turkmenistan took part in the competitions held in “Dynamo” sports complex. Contest for medals was held in two types of this martial art – sanda (single combats) and taolu (complex exercises). Our sportsmen performed in the first type.
Eighteen-year-old resident of Ashgabat Charyklych Tagangylyjov became the winner in the junior group of weight class up to 56 kilograms. In the semifinal, the Turkmen resident overpowered the representative of the hosts of the tournament. In the decisive duel, he didn’t give any chance to the Kazakh sportsman for victory.
Another victory in composition of our team was gained by Shohrat Orazgeldiyev, who performed in men’s group of participants (up to 52 kg). Three duels fell to his lot. Most complicated of them became the final fight, which was conducted by him being traumatized.
Clubmates of Orazgeldiyev – Maksatmyrat Aliyev (up to 60 kg) and Guvanch Yarymov (up to 65 kg) became the bronze winners of the contests. Another owner of the bronze medal is Gochmyrat Jumaniyazov from Turkmen team.
At present, Turkmen wushu masters prepare for a series of other international tournaments. The 3rd Club Championship of Eurasia will be held in June in the capital of Azerbaijan – Baku. Immediately after it, the first international wushu games will start in the Italian city – Monza. In the second summer month, it will be played the Open Cup of Brasilia and in August, the best young wushu masters of Asia will take part in the Regional Championship (Manila, the Philippines).
The composition of national teams (junior and adult) will be determined during Championship of Turkmenistan among men and women to be held from May 17 to 19 in the administrative center of Dashoguz province as well as the championship of the country to be held in next month in Balkanabat.
