Jon Tibbs: “Turkmenistan is the country of winners”

The first sports media forum in the framework of the preparations for the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, which will take place in Ashgabat in 2017 by the decision of the Olympic Council of Asia, was held at the National Institute of Sports and Tourism.

The media forum was organized with the view of ensuring media coverage and promotion of the 2017 Asian Games worldwide and implementing the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on cooperation in sport. Its second phase will take place on November 28-29, 2013.

The heads of the State Committee for Sport, the State Committee for Television, Radio and Cinematography, foreign journalists accredited in Turkmenistan, Turkmen media representatives and one of the leading experts in communications and international relations in the global sports movement, Director of Jon Tibbs and Associates, Mr. John Tibbs participated in the sports media forum organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the State Committee for Sports and the National Olympic Committee of Turkmenistan.

The guest highly evaluated the ongoing sports reforms in Turkmenistan and the critical role of the President of Turkmenistan in promoting them. “I often have to work with the winners, and I believe that the direction President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has chosen for your country is the way of winners,” Mr. John Tibbs said, addressing foreign and Turkmen journalists.

“I am fascinated with your preparatory work, your plans," Mr. John Tibbs shared his impressions, having learned that President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Olympic Council of Asia Sheikh Al-Ahmed Al-Fahad Al-Sabah had considered it appropriate to increase the number of participants V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games by inviting the non-Asian countries – Australia and Oceania to compete for medals in the 2017 Asian Games.

Over 5,000 athletes from 62 countries, who will compete in 17 sporting events, are expected to participate in the 2017 Asian Games. More than 1,500 media representatives are expected to arrive in Ashgabat to cover the multi-sport event, which will be held under the theme: “Inspiring a New Generation”.

After the media forum its participants visited the construction site of the Olympic Village, which would be the venue for the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in 2017.

”The Olympic Village, which has no analogues in the region, is another testimony of great attention that your President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov pays to the sports movement,” Mr. John Tibbs said. “I believe that this huge sports complex will be a pride of Turkmenistan, and the whole world will see soon what excellent sports facilities the upcoming 2017 Asian Games will be played on”.
