The ceremony of opening the city round of the tournaments among students of sports schools within the framework of the 3d National Sports Games under the motto “Turkmenistan is the country of high spirit and health” took place in Ashgabat.

The competitions involving broad cross-section of the population of country are held each year on the initiative of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who has proclaimed the promotion of sports and physical training movement a key priority of the state policy aimed at promoting health of the nation and bringing up the physically strong and spiritually rich young generation.

The tournaments of the National Sports Games are to offer new powerful incentives to practice different sports and physical training. The tournaments of the city rounds will be held at nine sports facilities in the Turkmen capital. Students of 16 sports schools will compete for the prizes in 13 sporting events, including freestyle wrestling, Greco-Roman wrestling, judo, goresh wrestling, basketball, volleyball, tennis, handball, mini-football, athletics, table tennis, chess and checkers.

Judokas and mini-football players were the first to compete in the tournaments. The city round among students of sports schools will finish on December 11.
