On August 16, the flame of the second in the history of Asian Youth Games was kindled in the Chinese city Nanking. Delegation of Turkmenistan also participated in its opening ceremony. These complex competitions, being held once in four years under patronage of the Olympic Council of Asia, host the best young athletes under 17 years old from entire continent.

The current Asian Youth Games in the Chinese province Jiangsu will become the test competitions before the second Asian Youth Games to be started in 2014 in Nanking. It is good that a year before starting of this grandiose sport holiday, an athlete, who got a right to participate in the Youth Olympics, appeared in the team of Turkmenistan. This high honor belongs to the champion of Turkmenistan in swimming, tenth former of the Ashgabat school No 15, pupil of the sports school of the State Committee Merjen Sariyeva.

Within the last nine months, fifteen-year-old pupil of the Honored Coach of Turkmenistan Sergey Epifanov stably improves her personal results in freestyle and butterfly swimming. Her performances in several representative competitions, including Asian Championship-2012 in Dubai, other international contest in UAE and Azerbaijan, World Championship in Barcelona are vivid evidence of this fact. By the way, in the last start in Spain, Merjen first in her career “changed” 30 seconds in 50-meter distance with freestyle – 29.63 seconds, having improved her result as compared with the Asian Championship – 2012 by 0.87 seconds. In crawl swimming in distance twice longer, she reduced 2.42 seconds.

We hope that Asian Youth Games in Nanking will become successful both for M. Sariyeva and all our sportsmen. Let wish them good luck in sport arenas of China!

The first Asian Youth Games were held four years ago in Singapore. They included tournament matches for 90 sets of awards in nine kinds of sports.
