The international conference on veterinary medicine closed at the Hasyl Hotel in the Avaza national tourism zone on the Caspian seashore.
The participants representing the government agencies, ministries and departments and research centres of Turkmenistan and the major international organisations from nearly 20 countries of the world discussed the issues related to the development and improvement of veterinary activities. The topics discussed included the development of the global food market, safety and food product quality improvement, particularly through improved veterinary surveillance and modern methods of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cross-border infectious diseases.
Experts of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Veterinary Association, the Veterinary Inspection of the European Commission, the State Veterinary Service under the Ministry of Agriculture of Turkmenistan and the similar agencies from the Russian Federation, Poland, Italy, Lithuania and other countries made the presentation of their activities during the conference.
The reports presented by Turkmen specialists on research activity of the Turkmen Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Livestock Farming and Veterinary Science and the Research and Technology Department of the Ministry of Agriculture aroused keen interest. Particular attention was paid to various aspects of horse breeding and measures to be taken by veterinary services during equestrian competitions in order to protect the health of horses.
The forum provided the platform for bilateral meetings of the heads of Turkmen veterinary services and research centres and representatives of the international organisations, who discussed the prospects of cooperation in priority areas and specific projects.
