The international tourism exhibition JATA Travel Showcase 2013, at which Turkmenistan presented its exposition together with 150 countries of the world, closed in the Japanese capital.
This year’s exhibition in Tokyo brought together major companies and professionals of this sphere. However, the debutant of the JATA tourism fair –Turkmenistan – did not go unnoticed but aroused keen interest that.
Turkmenistan pavilion particularly owes to the official visit of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Japan as well as the fact that the Turkmen leader found the time in the very busy programme of meetings and events to visit Turkmenistan pavilion at the international exhibition.
This is an extraordinary event in the history of JATA and Tokyo International Exhibition Centre created a commotion in the opening day. The visit and participation of the head of state in the opening ceremony of Turkmenistan pavilion was recognized as a phenomenon that was more than significant and outstanding in many aspects.
The visit of the President of Turkmenistan accompanied by such key figures in the industry on a global and regional scale as Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Taleb Rifai and Chairman of JATA-2013 Executive Committee Kotaro Kogi gave the high status to the participation of our country in the forum and made the event prestigious.
Colorful national souvenirs and handouts were in high demand at the exhibition. Magazines and other illustrated editions about Ahalteke horses were ‘carried away’ most of all. It should be noted that the photographs of incomparable racers had a lasting impression on Japanese visitors, arousing an ardent desire to see a living miracle in its homeland.
Japanese visitors got very interested in landmarks of Ashgabat inscribed on the Guinness World Records. As for historical and natural monuments – the ‘palm’ belongs to Ancient Merv that many have read or heard about. It turned out that Japanese people prefer visiting ancient architectural and archaeological monuments of bygone epochs during their journeys and in this regard Turkmenistan has a lot more tourist attractions than only one mysterious country of Margiana.
As many tourists from Japan visit Turkmenistan, there is every opportunity to increase this number. Such prospects were discussed during the exhibition that provided the platform for meetings between representatives of state-run and private travel agencies of Turkmenistan and top managers and specialists of Japanese travel companies.
Turkmenistan’s participation in the international tourism forum is a successful branding event for the country as one of the recognized historic centres of world civilization as well as a young independent state with the effective foreign and domestic policy, strong economy, rich cultural traditions and a growing international reputation.
