The sixth session of the Turkmen-Austrian Joint Commission was held in Vienna, the Republic of Austria on November 6-7. The heads and representatives of a number of the government structures and business circles of Turkmenistan and Austria participated in the meeting.

Within the framework of the meeting, the Austrian businessmen expressed the willingness to demonstrate their know-how in different industries at the "International Exhibition "White City - Ashgabat" scheduled for May, 2014. Among the other initiatives, it was proposed to organize the visit of the delegation of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Austria next year with the aim to establish the close business relations.

The members of the commission as well as meeting participants discussed the prospects of cooperation in the fuel and energy sector, including the development of the renewable energy sources, innovative technologies in the oil and gas and chemical industries. The meeting participants underlined the existence of the huge potential for cooperation in exporting the Turkmen textile products.

The mutual willingness to enhancing the partnership was presented in the sphere of construction, infrastructure, transport and communication development as well as development and implementation of the joint projects and programmes in such areas as medical science, tourism and training of highly-qualified specialists for the tourism industry.

Processing of agricultural products was specified among the other important aspects for enhancing cooperation. The issue of supplying the Austrian equipment for the relevant complexes in Turkmenistan was also discussed within the framework of the meeting.

Innovations is another significant area of the work of the Turkmen-Austrian Joint Commission.

Among the other areas considered during the meeting was cooperation of the government agencies of the two countries in the sphere of standardization and demographic record keeping as well as financial and technological sectors. Discussing the legal basis of the Turkmen-Austrian partnership, the meeting participants considered the project of the intergovernmental Agreement on promotion and protection of investments as well as the progress of drafting the other important bilateral documents.

The meeting participants paid particular attention to the humanitarian cooperation, including the spheres of culture and education.

Within the framework of the visit to Vienna, the members of the Turkmen delegations had a number of meetings with the representatives of Austrian companies and enterprises.
