A regular meeting of the Joint Turkmen-Uzbek Commission on the trade and economic, scientific and technological, and cultural cooperation took place in Ashgabat. The heads and leading specialists of the sectoral ministries and departments of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan participated in the meeting. The delegation of the friendly country is led by Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade of Uzbekistan E. Ganiev.

The meeting agenda focused on the preparations for the forthcoming visit of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Uzbekistan.

The meeting participants expressed belief in that the work of the commission would contribute to practical implementation of the top level agreements achieved earlier, including widening of the contractual and legal basis between the two countries.

The transport and communication sphere, agriculture and water industry were specified among the priority areas of cooperation. Particular attention was paid to the issues of implementing the project on establishment of the transport and transit corridor between Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Oman and Qatar.

The issues of the further enhancement of the partnership in such areas as science, education, culture, sports and tourism were also discussed within the framework of the meeting.
