Centuries-old origins of the construction culture of Turkmenistan

Within the framework of the final day of the two-day conference "Thousand-year Origins of the Construction Culture of Turkmenistan", the numerous foreign guests, scientists and specialists got acquainted with the architectural objects on the territory of the Ancient Merv State Historical and Cultural Reserve in Mary Velayat.

The foreign guests, including the participants of the International Exhibition and Conference "Education, Sport and Tourism in the Epoch of Might and Happiness", visited the Big Gyzgala fortress built in VII-IX centuries, Mausoleum of Muhammed ibn Zeid erected in 1112-1113 and the Mausoleum of the last ruler of the Great Seljuk Empire Sultan Sandjar - the magnificent architectural monument of Merv and a pearl of the Turkmen architecture of the XII century.


Considering the objects, the scientists exchanged their views on the important aspects of the comprehensive study and identification of the historical and cultural monuments of the Ancient Merv, interference of cultures, preservation and conservation of the objects as well as other issues.

The guests also visited the Mary Velayat Museum of Local History and library in Mary.

Upon arrival to Ashgabat, the forum participants summed up the conference during the solemn ceremony of closing the scientific forum taken place in the Mekan Palace. According to those speaking during the ceremony, the conference will offer a powerful incentive to developing the scientific and research activity on studying the historical and architectural monuments and ancient construction technologies of Turkmenistan and careful preservation of this invaluable cultural heritage for the following generations.
