Three-day meeting of the 18th session of Coordination Committee for hydrometeorology and pollution monitoring of the Caspian Sea (CASCOM) with participation of delegations from five Caspian littoral states – Russia, Iran, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan completed its work in the conference hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
International experts – coordinators of the Comprehensive Programme for hydrometeorology and environmental monitoring in the region of the Caspian Sea (CASPAS) and Regional Department of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) also took part in the work of the session of CASCOM.
The topic of the session agenda became the discussion of formation of efficient legal foundations for coordinated long-term interstate interaction in the field of hydrometeorology researches and monitoring of marine environment of the Caspian Sea.
Major result of the work of the 18th session of CASCOM became the concordance at the expert level of the final text of draft Agreement on cooperation in the field of hydrometeorology of the Caspian Sea and signing of Memorandum of Understanding between the Coordination Committee for hydrometeorology and pollution monitoring of the Caspian Sea and Framework Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea.
