Several sports schools and stadium were put into operation in the regions of the country. Consistent steps to develop healthy lifestyle infrastructure are being taken in the country under the National Programme of the President of Turkmenistan on the improvement of social and living conditions in settlements, villages, etrap towns and administrative centres for the period till 2020. Officials of velayat, etrap and town khyakimliks, the elders and local citizens attended the ceremony of opening the new facilities.
A sports school designed for 365 places was opened in Kunya Urgench in Dashoguz Velayat. It was built by the construction and mounting department 13 of the Ministry of Construction. The newly-constructed building have the total area of about 4 hectares, over a half of which is occupied by the two-storey school building. This sports school together with other new facilities built in the town in recent years is located on Yagtylyk Street where the new architectural ensemble including various infrastructure facilities is being formed.
Students can practice various sports such as volleyball, basketball, tennis, handball, box, martial arts, sambo, do therapeutic exercises and promote their health under the supervision of well-experienced coaches and specialists in the gyms and special sports facilities located in the territory of the school. Local citizens are happy to have new big and small swimming pools where they can do water sports. There are the grounds for playing outdoor sports, football field and running tracks in the school yard. There are the rooms for referees, first-aid post and stands with seats for spectators of sports tournaments in the territory of the school.
A big sports complex designed for 1,500 spectators was opened in S. A. Niyazov Etrap. The new sports facility was built by the construction and mounting department 6 of the Dashoguzgurlusyk Production Association.
Various sports competitions can be held there. Local citizens can promote their health in sports groups and fitness centres there. The stadium with football field and running tracks occupies the largest part of the territory of the complex. There are the hotel, rooms for referees, first-aid post, shower cubicles and offices under the stands. Local athletes can practice various sports, including tennis, volleyball, mini football and basketball in the outdoor grounds on the territory of the sports complex.
This sports complex together with the newly built sports school designed for 365 students will enable to promote the sport and physical culture movement in the region and coach highly qualified athletes.
