The International conference "Neutral Turkmenistan: the Strategy of Peace, Security and Sustainable Development" dedicated to the 18th anniversary of the neutrality of Turkmenistan took place in Ashgabat. The conference was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Mejlis and Democratic Party of Turkmenistan.
The high ranking representatives of the authoritative international and regional organizations, political figures, the heads of the diplomatic missions and representations accredited in the country, the specialists of the foreign-policy agency, national parliamentarians, the heads of newspapers and journals, rectors of the institutions of higher education, teachers and students of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and other institutions took part in the conference.
The status of the permanent neutrality is perceived by an important tool to ensure the stability and security in the region, to discuss and solve the important issues at the international level.The initiatives put forward by Turkmenistan create the favourable conditions for widening cooperation, strengthening friendship, fraternity and partnership within the region and the global level as well.
According to those present, independent neutral Turkmenistan makes a significant contribution to the efforts aimed at supporting the universal peace and harmony based on mutually-beneficial cooperation.
In the afternoon, the delegates of the forum, including the representatives of international organizations took part in the roundtable meetings held in the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The agenda of the meetings focused on the cooperation of Turkmenistan within the CIS with such structures as IOM, UNHCR, IFAS, TRACECA, and others.
The meeting participants considered the role of neutrality in strengthening peace and security, modern international relations and integration processes.
