The National Taekwon-Do Championship (ITF): from the National tournament to the Asian Championship

The National Taekwon-Do Championship (ITF) was held in the Turkmen capital. Over 120 sportsmen from Ashgabat and the regions of the country took part in the tournament organized by the State Committee for Sport, the National Taekwon-Do Federation and the Central Council of Magtymguly Youth Organisation.

The athletes competed for the medals in two events - kumite (fighting) and tuli (complex event), where sportsmen from Mary Velayat lead.


Sportsmen from Mary Velayat, Ashgabat and Balkan region won the gold medals in kumite.

These days, the Turkmen school of taekwondo has achieved great results at the international sports arena.


During the 2013 World Championship in Sophia, Turkmen referee Aydogdy Atabaev was recognized the most nonprejudicial coach of the tournament and was awarded with a special prize.

Our athletes won nine medals, including one gold, five silver and three bronze medals of the 2013 Asian Summer Championship in Uzbekistan.

In Bukhara, Turkmen sportsmen won the Taekwon-Do Central Asia Cup and won four gold medals, four silver medals and four bronze medals.


Our sportsmen also won two gold and one silver medals of the Taekwon-Do Cup in Belarus.

At present, Turkmen athletes are preparing for the Asia Championship to be held in Nepal in April.
