A human rights dialogue

A two-day roundtable meeting focusing on best practices and international experience in the activities of national human rights institutions was organized at the Turkmen National Institute for Democracy and Human Rights under the President of Turkmenistan. Participants of the forum conducted in the framework of the joint plan of cooperation between the Government of Turkmenistan and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) in the legal field included deputies of the Mejlis, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Institute of State and Law under the President of Turkmenistan, the National Centre of Trade Unions, the Women’s Union and the Youth Union.

Addressing the forum, UN Resident Coordinator, UNDP Resident Representative in Turkmenistan Ms. Jacinta Barrins stressed that the United Nations fully supported Turkmenistan’s successive steps in the democratic development and the improvement of the legislation strengthening the rights and freedoms of citizens.

An international expert, Senior Lecturer in Human Rights and Governance at the University of Oxford Brookes Dr. Richard Carver made a presentation of the latest achievements in the field of management and administration of national human rights institutions.
