The Turkmenistan Cadet Greco-Roman Wrestling Championship (under 17) was held in Turkmenabat. The competitions brought together about 200 athletes from all the regions of our country at specialized sports school 2.

It should be noted that Lebap has always been famous for its wrestlers ‘palvan’. Lebap athletes invariably take up leading positions in the tournaments at both national level and international levels as evidenced by hundreds of medals in the receptacle of sporting achievements of Turkmenistan. The most recent of them were gained last month in the international Greco-Roman wrestling tournament, which took place in Podolsk (Russia), where a wrestler from Turkmenabat Sh. Permanov won a bronze medal in the under 75 kg weight category.
Young participants in this year’s national Greco-Roman wrestling championship competed not only for prizes and medals, but also for a bench in the national team that will participate in the qualification tournaments of II Summer Youth Olympic Games, which will be held from 16 to 28 August 2014 in Nanjing, China.
Moreover, Greco-Roman wrestling is one of the sports that claim to be a part of the sports programme of the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, which will be held in the Turkmen capital.
The wrestlers from Ashgabat - R. Bairamov (under 42 kg), Sh. Amangulyev (under 50 kg), S. Tazaev (54 kg), G. Muradov (under 58 kg) and A. Kuliev (under 85 kg) –demonstrated the best techniques among the masters in the classic style and won five gold medals.
The teams from Lebap and Balkan Velayat shared the two first places: the hosts of the championship were represented on the highest step of the podium by M. Kurbanov (under 46 kg) and A. Hoshiev (under 100 kg) and the team from Balkan – by E. Shaginyan (under 63 kg) and B. Seitmamedov (under 69 kg). I. Allabergenov (under 76 kg) gained a victory for the Dashoguz team.
The Greco-Roman wrestling finals of the National Sports Games held under the motto “Turkmenistan is the Country of High Spirit and Good Health!” will take place in the Turkmen capital in the last decade of March. Many participants in this year’s national championship are the members of the teams of Ashgabat and the regions of our country, which means that soon they will challenge each other to a duel on the wrestling mats.
