The second round matches of the Turkmenistan Major Football League Championship were held in four towns of the country.
The game in Ashgabat, where the reigning champions - the International Turkmen-Turkish University (ITTU) played with the vice-championships, the AFC President’s Cup holders FC Balkan on home ground, was of particular interest to football fans in our country.
At the start of the football season ITTU lost 2:4 to FC Ahal in the Turkmenistan Super Cup match and drew the game 0:0 with FC Talyp Sporty, the outsiders of the 2013 national championship. FC Balkan has made a good start this season, having gained convincing victory 3:0 over FC Dashoguz in the match, which had taken place in Balkanabat.
The defender M. Saparov from FC Balkan left the field after gaining two yellow cards in the 26th minute and FC Balkan played shorthanded. Nevertheless, the first half of the match ended in a draw 0:0. An ITTU forward S. Muhadov threw the ball over the goalkeeper and scored the goal - 1:0 in the 48th minute. Though FC Balkan put a lot of effort to win ITTU retained the winning score 1:0.
The ‘hail’ of goals was recorded in Turkmenabat where FC Ashgabat scored the most overwhelming victory 8:0 in this year’s championship over FC Bagtyyarlyk-Lebap. The match is also distinguished by the first hat trick in the 2014 national championship. E. Tagaev scored the three goals in the opponent’s net.
FC Shagadam won their first victory, having defeated 2:0 FC Merv from Mary. The match was held at the newly built 1,500-seated stadium in Turkmenbashi Etrap. Both goals were scored by A. Boliyan (penalty goals in the 59th and 90th minutes).
Another match was held in the administrative centre of the northern region of the country. The twofold holders of the Turkmenistan President’s Cup FC Altyn Asyr defeated 3:0 FC Dashoguz. The team from Ashgabat had to play shorthanded after N. Choliev had received the second yellow card in the 64th minute and left the field. M. Kurbanov made a double in the match (penalty goals in the 16th and 34th minutes). The third goal was scored by N. Rahimov (the 73rd minute). This victory brought 6 points to the squad coached by Honoured Coach of Turkmenistan Ya. Hojageldyev and allowed them to be at the top of the table. FC Ashgabat, FC Shagadam and ITTU have 4 points each.
