Turkmenistan is welcoming travellers on the Great Silk Road

view-icon 1899
Several large tourist groups travelling from Europe and Asia along the Great Silk Road, the sites of which are inscribed on the World Heritage List of UNESCO, are visiting Turkmenistan these days. For example, the train brought a tourist group from the Turkmen-Uzbek border to the train station in Mary town. Citizens of Switzerland, who constituted a large part of the group of 125 tourists, and travellers from Germany, Austria, Italy, Luxembourg, France and Poland, made a tour to the Ancient Merv State Historical and Cultural Reserve. In Mary, the guests had an opportunity to taste the dishes of Turkmen cuisine. Then the guests went by train to white-marble Ashgabat.

The morning of the following day began with a tour to the Main National Museum of Turkmenistan, the largest repository of artefacts of the national history. Then the guests visited the ancient site of Old Nisa near Ashgabat. Excursus into ancient history was followed by an acquaintance with the present day of Turkmenistan – a tour of the Turkmen capital. A bright folk and musical performance was presented for the guests in the evening.

Another group of tourists arrived in Ashgabat on the night of April 15-16 to start their journey along the Great Silk Road. The guests will make the inverse tour: from Ashgabat to Mary. Most of them are citizens of England; the group also consists of tourists from Ireland, France, Austria, Germany, Norway, Switzerland, Poland, the United States, Canada and Singapore.

By the way, a large group of tourists from Hong Kong has visited Turkmenistan recently. The programme of their visit included the tours to monuments in Kunya Urgench, landmarks in Ashgabat, Old Nisa and Ancient Merv. Japanese travellers – two groups from the Land of the Rising Sun, who made a fascinating tour to the open-air museum – Kunya Urgench and an exciting journey to Darvaza in the heart of the Karakum Desert, Mary and ancient Merv, have flown into the stream of foreign tourists, who have visited Turkmenistan this month.

Providing the modern interpretation of the phenomenon of the Great Silk Road through tourist projects, we would like to add that a group of tourists from France, yearning to see architectural masterpieces in Kunya Urgench with their own eyes, visit the ancient site of Old Nisa and the land of Margiana covered with legends, is expected to arrive in Turkmenistan in late April. One of the places of interest on their route is Ashgabat.
