The fifth meeting of the Joint Turkmen-Tajik Intergovernmental Commission on trade and economic, scientific and technological cooperation took place in Ashgabat. The representative delegation led by Minister of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan Usmonali Usmonzoda arrived in the Turkmen capital to take part in the meeting. The heads and leading specialists of the key ministries and departments of our country represented Turkmenistan at the meeting.

The meeting agenda focused on the diversification of the trade and economic relations, increasing the exports and imports, widening the range and volumes of the goods delivered and services offered. Power energy and industry, agriculture, healthcare, education and science, sport and tourism were specified among the priority spheres of the bilateral relations. Particular attention was paid to cooperation in the transport and communication sphere, in particular implementation of the important infrastructural project on construction of the railway Turkmenistan - Afghanistan - Tajikistan, a new transport corridor that is of particular strategic significance for the whole region and in general as well.

The next meeting will be held in the first half of the year of 2015 in the capital of Tajikistan - Dushanbe.
