Turkmenistan is elected to the UN Commission on Science and Technology for Development for 2014-2016 and the UN Commission for Social Development for 2014-2017 at a meeting of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) at the UN headquarters in New York.
Elections were held during the ECOSOC Organizational Session and the candidacy of our country was supported unanimously by the members of the authoritative organisation.
Certainly, this event is another vivid evidence for the rapidly growing international prestige of Turkmenistan. Currently, our country is a member of the Economic and Social Council - one of the six principal bodies of the United Nations, whose work contributes to addressing international issues in the economic and social spheres, health care, culture and education. ECOSOC that coordinates the work of UN agencies manages more than 70 per cent (!) human and financial resources of the UN system.
