Developing economic cooperation

A regular joint meeting of the Turkmen-Japan and Japan-Turkmen Committees for economic cooperation took place in Ashgabat. A representative delegation of Japan arrived in Turkmenistan to participate in the meeting.

The Japanese delegation led by Chairman of the Japan-Turkmen Committee for economic cooperation, Executive Vice President of the ITOCHU Corporation Yoichi Kobayashi included heads of ministries, departments and business agencies of Japan.

Representatives of a number of government institutions, leading sectoral ministries and departments of Turkmenistan participated in the meeting. The agenda of the meeting focused on a wide range of issues regarding enhancement of the Turkmen-Japanese cooperation.

The meeting participants considered the prospects of widening the bilateral trade and economic relations.

As was noted, the Japan-Turkmen network on improvement of the investment structure established by the Institute of strategic planning and economic development of Turkmenistan and Japan Association for Trade with Russia and Newly Independent State (ROTOBO) contributes to coordination of work in the sphere of trade and investments, cooperation between parties in charge, including ministries, departments, and business structures.

Scientific projects on cooperation between the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan and Tokyo University in the sphere of renewable sources of energy and biotechnologies as well as establishment of Turkmen-Japan laboratories in the Centre of Technologies of Turkmenistan were considered during the meeting. The meeting participants also discussed the programs on teaching Turkmen students in Japan.

Those present at the meeting also discussed the consultative participant of specialists from Japan in preparations for the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in 2017.

Tourism industry, in particular development of the Avaza National tourism zone and participation of Turkmenistan in the World tourism exhibition “Jata travel Showcase 2014” was specified as a priority sphere of cooperation.

The meeting participants also discussed the opportunities of organizing creative forums and days of culture.

At the concluding of the meeting, participants signed protocol.
