Regional Director of the United Nations Population Fund for Eastern Europe and Central Asia Mr. Heimo Laakkonen, who had arrived in Ashgabat on a visit, was received at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

During the meeting, the distinguished guest was informed on the key aspects of the state policy of Turkmenistan pursued under the leadership of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. It was noted that development of the constructive cooperation with all countries of the world and authoritative international organisations, and, first of all, the United Nations Organisation and its leading structures is the key vector of the foreign-policy strategy implemented by Turkmenistan.

It was emphasized that within the last years, relations between Turkmenistan and the UN have developed based on the mutual interest in enhancing bilateral and multilateral dialogue in all areas of cooperation. In this regard, the meeting participants focused on the huge potential for enhancing efficient cooperation and exchanged views on the existing situation and prospects for traditionally beneficial collaboration with the UNFPA.

Within the framework of the visit to Ashgabat, Mr. Heimo Laakkonen was received at the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and got acquainted with the work of the Turkmen Parliament.
