In the city of Turkmenbashy the bicycle race initiated by Lebap promoters of healthy life style and cycling was completed. Participants of a long race on bicycle finished in Avaza tourist zone-in a recreation centre Dayanch for children and adults of the National centre of trade unions of Turkmenistan.
A large sport event of fans of cycling was realized on a common basis with the framework of the 290th birthday anniversary of Magtymguly Phyragy, the great Turkmen poet. Its itinerary lied from the banks of the Amyderya to the village of Gerkez, the native place of Magtymguly Phyragy in Balkan province and further to the sacred places on the shore of the Caspian Sea.
The cycle race started on May 4 in the village of Kyzylayak, from the walls of the medieval madrasah of Idris baba where the great philosopher and humanist Magtymguly Phyragy of the east studied in his youth. The long road tested the durability, agility of travellers and blessed them with success. So, near Bayramaly they met a young Englishman Kyos, who make a cycle trip to the countries of Central Asia. In the spirit of the Turkmen hospitality our cyclers invited their foreign counterpart on the road cafe. As they sat at table, on the door appeared Andreas-cyclist from Austria who was going to Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan and further to the Far East through Turkmenistan.
It was a great pleasant surprise-an incidental meeting of fans of cycle race from different countries on the Turkmen land. Parting cyclers exchanged wishes of health and good journey. The team of Deryaguly Ashyrov moved towards west, making friends with each other Kyos and Andreas together set out to the southern part of the great Silk Road. A unique record was made by our sportsmen on the way to the etrap of Magtymguly when they decided to save their time and go there through stiff mountain pass in the vicinity of Bamy in the etrap of Baharly of Akhal province. None of cyclers before ride on this road where drivers of vehicles who risked ascending this high road even in winter time radiators boiled. However, our cyclers overcame it for eight hours and successfully descended into the plain of the village Bendesen making a short halt near local shepherds.
Several kilometres away from the shepherds’ place near the village of Chukur, they encountered an old burial. It happened that it is a resting place of the sacred guardian of roads Meshrep divana. It was accepted as a good omen. From the hill of Meshrep divana a direct road to the village of Gerkez overlooked. Few kilometres were left to it. In the morning of May 18, the team of cyclers finished in the village of Gerkez, the native place of Magtymguly Phyragy where cyclers took part in the festive events.
Passing by Balkanabat, the capital of the coastal city, cycle racers near the settlement of Jebel turned towards north. Through the passage of Oglanly in the ridge of the Large Balkan, they moved on the road of Turkmenbashi etrap to the sacred places of Arsary baba and Gozli ata, sanctuaries of the Turkmens.
It was a difficult road through sands, mountains and hollows. They covered not more than 40 kilometres a day. However, their tiredness was compensated with a flow of alive and healing energy of live nature. Their soul enjoyed the may weather ,wonderful steppes , waves of sand dunes, amphitheatres of depressions and waterfalls , flowering saxauls, greens on the bank of water channels and old river courses. They were encouraged with welcoming residents of these places and it raised their mood.
From sacred places the rod to the sea came to the slope and cyclers accelerated their speed. For two days they covered 250 kilometres. And halted to rest in the settlement of aviators in the etrap of Avaza of the city Turkmenbashi.
As a physician I state - said Deryaguly Ashyrov, the head of the cycle race that all members of the team ,both adults and small, the youngest of us is 53, pulse, and pressure as teenagers. The mood is perfect. We wish not only to repeat such trip but cover the itineraries which before us nobody has passed.
On May 31 the cycle racers finished in the Avaza national tourist zone covering 2 300 kilometre. The length of the itinerary covered by Batyr Abdullayev, starting from Koytendagh made up 2580 kilometres.
