The fourth session of the Intergovernmental Commission of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea on Trade, Economy, Scientific and Technological Cooperation took place in Ashgabat. Heads and representatives of leading ministries and departments of the two countries attended the meeting.

The meeting agenda focused on the progress in implementing the agreements achieved earlier. Meeting participants expressed satisfaction with development of cooperation in a number of key areas and underlined the importance of diversifying it given new opportunities in the trade and economic sector, fuel and energy complex, transport and communication, construction and agriculture.

Emphasizing on the favourable investment climate created in Turkmenistan for foreign partners, representatives of the Korean delegation reaffirmed the willingness of businessmen in the Republic of Korea to explore the rapidly developing Turkmen market.

Particular attention was paid to cooperation in the fuel and energy sector. It was underlined the significance of implementing projects on processing oil and gas, producing high-quality polymer and oner kinds of gas and chemical products, and training specialists for the gas and chemical industry.

Meeting participants also focused on electrical energy industry as a priority area of cooperation as well as on renewable ecologically friendly energy sources such as wind and sun energy.

It was underlined the significance of exchanging experience and new technologies in the agroindustrial sector.

It was discussed the possibilities of participation of Korean companies in implementation of large-scale projects in the sphere of transport as well as construction of infrastructural facilities.

Members of the commission called for enhancing educational and scientific contacts, and cultural dialogue and underlined the importance of strengthening relations between artistic groups and enhancing cooperation in the sphere of cinematography and theatre art.

Participants of the meeting also supported an idea of establishing relations between national Olympic committees, sports federations and associations of the two countries. The preparations for V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games to be held in Ashgabat in 2017 were also discussed during the meeting.

The fifth meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission is planned to be held in the Republic of Korea in 2015.
