The International Conference on Migration and Statelessness: Identifying Challenges and the Way Forward closed in Ashgabat organized jointly by the Government of Turkmenistan, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) closed in Ashgabat.

The conference participants focused on the ways to address the modern pressing issues, including the development of the joint consolidated approaches to tackle the global challenges of the 21st century, such as migration and statelessness.

In general, focusing on the need to study the practices of the countries of the region in this field, the participants expressed belief that an intensive discussion of the issues on the forum agenda would contribute to adopting new critical steps and concerting efforts to develop and implement the all-inclusive policy on the management of migration in full compliance with human rights standards and commitments at the national, regional and international levels. Addressing the heads of foreign delegations, IOM Director General William Lacy Swing urged them to work together in a spirit of trust and partnership to ensure safe and orderly migration for all and protect the rights of all migrants.

The Co-Chairs of the International Conference on Migration and Statelessness: Identifying Challenges and the Way Forward adopted the Joint Statement.
